What part of the world are you in?

Lafayette, Indiana, USA

What does customer service mean to you?

A personal experience, a connection withthe person behind the business.

What is your most memorable experience with a customer?

It's memorable any time I heara positive response from a customer.

What sets you apart from other sellers who are selling similar items?

I try to pick materialsthat are a little unconventional. I don't take myself too seriously, and I try to reflectthat in my crafting. I like to have fun with sewing.

How did you learn the skills that make you successful today?

Lots of library books and mistakes!I believe I've learned by experiencing how not to do something. My husband has helped mea lot with social networking and keeping my perspective.

Do you have any formal training in your craft?

No, I started with ideas in books and on craftblogs and websites and sort of went from there. I've never attended a class.

What is your goal for the next year?

I'd like to expand my shop a little with a couple more creative designs.

What keeps you motivated when sales are slow?

I really just enjoy sewing. Even if I don't havevery many sales, I still have fun making things.

What do you do to attract new clients and encourage re-occurring business?

I try to keep updates andpromos out there on Myspace and I also have a small email newsletter in circulation. I also stay active onEtsy and the team forums I belong to.

If you could share one piece of advice with someone who is considering opening their own store of handmade items, what would it be?

Don't get discouraged, it doesn't all happen at once!
